UCD Research Scientist in the Social Study of Markets, UCD College of Business (Temporary, 3 Years)
The appointed Research Scientist will ideally have a minimum of 2 years' postdoctoral or equivalent research experience, ideally including substantial research management experience. They will have a track record of high-quality publications and/or innovation outputs, in accord with the norms of their discipline.
The successful candidate will be a member of an ERC funded research team for a five year project entitled “'Misfires and Market Innovation: Toward a Collaborative Turn in Organising Markets”. The project refocuses the issues of market failures and market design from economic principles of supply and demand towards collaboration and participation. It investigates problems and concerns in biomedical markets, such as overpricing, limited access to medicines and data privacy issues, and it establishes how collaborative market instruments could be conceived to solve these problems. The project ask how market failures in biomedical markets can be diagnosed and how government bodies, medical and pharmaceutical industries, patient groups and other actors can work together to address these misfires. The overall objective of the project is to guide new academic and policy thinking by establishing what research can do to make markets more inclusive and to open them up to the concerns of those who feel let down by them. It leverages ethnographic field methods, archival research, digital methodologies and participatory research in a multiple case design. ERC Consolidator grants are awarded under the 'excellent science pillar' of Horizon 2020, the European Union's research and innovation programme. This project has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (grant agreement No 771217).
Salary range: €54,000 - €65,000 per annum
