Position Summary	The Interior Design faculty at Indiana University Bloomington seeks a new colleague for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer faculty position in Interior Design to begin in fall 2024. We seek individuals whose perspective, experience, and/or built work advances the understanding of interior design as a human-focused, culturally contextualized, and ecologically aware discipline. We believe design unites humanity. The Interior Design faculty is currently comprised of nine full-time colleagues and additional dedicated adjunct faculty members committed to providing insightful, engaged, contextualized, innovative, and inspiring teaching and learning. The new colleague will add a tenth full-time faculty member to support continued enrollment growth in the Program. Our faculty benefits from our diversity of experience, including strong contributions from individuals who transitioned to teaching from professional practice. The Interior Design faculty is widely recognized for pedagogical excellence, including university-level teaching awards. The Interior Design program is situated within the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design and the College of Arts & Sciences. This location contextualizes our approach to design with a rich liberal arts background and a deep, cross-disciplinary exploration of art and design. Lecturer-track faculty members in the Eskenazi School share responsibility and privileges with the tenure-track faculty members in developing, guiding, and delivering the quality education we provide. The Lecturer track follows a promotion process similar to tenure-track positions (lecturer, senior lecturer, teaching professor) with emphasis on development of an excellent teaching practice, mentoring of students, and service to the school and in support of teaching. Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Developing and maintaining professional and pedagogical expertise Teaching an annual course load of five or six courses (varying by course type) during the 10-month academic year Mentoring undergraduate interior design students Participating in curriculum development and accreditation processes (i.e., CIDA, NASAD) Participating in faculty governance at the program, school, and university levels
Basic Qualifications	Candidates must have: Demonstrated ability (or potential) for excellent classroom teaching Working knowledge of three-dimensional modeling software NCIDQ certification (or eligibility to complete the certification prior to promotion) At least one (1) degree in interior design (undergraduate or graduate), EITHER a bachelor’s degree in interior design PLUS five (or more) years of professional interiors-focused design practice (e.g., firm, in-house team, industry or manufacturing, public service, facilities management, construction management) OR a terminal degree in interior design or a relevant field by the start date of employment PLUS a minimum of three-years of professional interiors-focused practice Candidates must demonstrate the ability to teach interior design studios addressing design principles and elements, contemporary design theory, emerging social issues, construction and detailing, and/or critical community engagement AND courses addressing one of the following: Design processes (based in design thinking, collaborative design strategies, or design research methodologies) Emerging technologies (e.g., augmented/virtual reality, digital modeling and construction, building technologies) Modern and contemporary interior design history Topics in interior design that challenge long-standing professional, disciplinary, and social injustices, bias, and exclusion
