    About This Opportunity

    The School of Communication and Arts seeks to appoint an exceptional individual as Lecturer (Level B) or Senior Lecturer (Level C) in Digital Journalism. The ideal candidate will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: mis- and disinformation; artificial intelligence in journalism; future focused audio and video production; industry-standard journalism practice and technologies. Professional journalistic experience is also desirable.

    The successful candidate will teach across undergraduate and postgraduate programs, supervise Higher Degree Research Students, conduct high-quality scholarship, foster engagement with external stakeholders and partners, and contribute to the collegial environment of the School and University.


    Key responsibilities will include:

    Teaching:

    • Develop and deliver courses

    • Engage in curriculum design

    • Coordinate courses

    • Assess students

    • Provide academic counseling

    • Adhere to university teaching rules

    Research:

    • Establish a research program

    • Collaborate on research projects

    • Seek and manage research funding

    • Publish in reputable journals

    • Utilize best practice research methodologies

    • Participate in project discussions

    Supervision and Researcher Development:

    • Supervise students

    • Ensure that supervisees are provided with appropriate training in relation to research integrity and ethics policies

    • Support the skills and career development of supervisees

    • Undertake relevant supervisory training and development opportunities

    Citizenship and Service:

    • Develop partnerships

    • Demonstrate leadership through mentoring

    • Engage in internal service roles and committees

    • Perform administrative functions

    • Provide support to colleagues

    • Uphold university values

    About You

    Applicants should possess a PhD in a relevant field of Digital Journalism. Additionally, you will demonstrate:

    • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: mis- and disinformation; artificial intelligence in journalism; future focused audio and video production; industry-standard journalism practice and technologies

    • A growing profile (Level B) or established profile (Level C) in teaching with evidence of high-quality University teaching at different levels (undergraduate, honours, postgraduate) across a variety of settings

    • Ability to lead/coordinate (Level B) or extensive experience leading/coordinating (Level C) courses and contribute to the development and innovation of curricula and course material

    • Ability (Level B) or demonstrated experience (Level C) supervising honours and Higher Degree Research students to completion

    • A developing (Level B) or sustained (Level C) track record of publication and the ability to conceive and execute a mid to long term research agenda. For Level C, there should be demonstration of such successful pursuit of a research agenda

    • Evidence of seeking (Level B), obtaining and managing (Level C) external research funding as appropriate within the field

    • Experience in internal service roles and a growing profile (Level B) or established profile (Level C) of professional expertise that complements the School
