Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a position – at the Full Professor or Associate Professor level – in Culture, Organization and Entrepreneurship at the Department of Management, Politics and Philosophy (MPP). 


Profile of MPP

In announcing the professorship in Culture, Organization and Entrepreneurship, the Department wishes to strengthen its research and teaching pertaining to the cultural field (e.g. in arts, aesthetics and design) as well as related (e.g. aesthetic, spatial, material, affective, innovation, technological mediation) approaches to organization and entrepreneurship. MPP has a strong international reputation in these areas of research, as well as strong international research network, and the Department works in close collaboration with the design and cultural sector.


MPP is a disciplinary and multi-disciplinary research Department in the humanities and social sciences with a focus on law, business and organization across private and public sectors and civil society. It aims to develop its reputation among students, companies, public institutions, and research colleagues as innovative, creative and critical/reflexive. The Department is committed to research-based education and to bring new knowledge into play in society in a constructive, engaged, and valuable manner. A key focus of MPP is to publish its research with highly ranked academic journals and publishers across a broad spectrum of areas.


MPP is organized into different research groups: Politics; Business History: Philosophy; Management & Entrepreneurship; and Law. Faculty within these groups have research backgrounds in all areas of law, political science, sociology, philosophy, history, anthropology, literature, theology, aesthetics, design and innovation, tourism and leisure management, cultural economics, leadership and strategy, pedagogic study, and other areas. What unites faculty is an overriding concern for the organization of the human within its multiple environments: work, nature, economy, civil association, the state, and the corporation. MPP also participates in numerous interdisciplinary cross-CBS activities. 


Across the Department, there is a keen interest in developing new forms of teaching and learning environments in collaboration with CBS faculty, international researchers, students and partner organizations. MPP’s researchers teach in a wide range of CBS programs and covers Bachelor, Master and PhD levels as well as executive programs. 

The position is located in the Management & Entrepreneurship Group. 


Profile of position

The position is open to applications on Full Professor and Associate Professor level. It is located in the Management and Entrepreneurship group. Holders of the position will undertake research and develop education dedicated to some of the following: culture and entrepreneurship; culture, management and economics; design management and organizational aesthetics (including affect-based, spatial and material approaches); and the challenges for innovation and leadership in entrepreneurial organizations that blend cultural, design and aesthetic knowledge. In disciplinary terms, this profile links entrepreneurship and organization studies to disciplines and research fields such as cultural theory, design thinking, social entrepreneurship, cultural sociology, cultural economics as well as media and technology studies and aesthetics and art theory. 


In terms of education, the successful applicant is expected to teach at all levels and engage in the development of new teaching programmes at the intersection of the art, cultural production and design with the study of organization, entrepreneurship and/or cultural economics and cultural policy. Corresponding to these research and teaching initiatives, moreover, candidates should be prepared to take responsibilities for helping in the coordination of study programs in the areas of entrepreneurship and innovation, art, culture and design.


Applicants must have an international research profile and – especially for applications on full professorship level – a proven track record of excellent scholarship within the research areas outlined above. They should have a strong background in and around the fields of social, cultural, aesthetic and economic theory in order to contribute to MPP’s positioning within the social sciences and humanities and the Department’s corresponding activities in management education and research. 


The positions are expected to straddle a number of MPP’s themes and disciplines in order to further stimulate interdisciplinary projects and dialogues within and beyond MPP. Applicants are required to document a proficient experience in academic writing and publishing. Applicants must be capable of providing dynamic academic leadership in the development of research and teaching as well as in securing external research funding and partnerships. 


To fulfil the research requirements of the position, the successful applicants are expected to be physically present on a regular basis, to actively participate in the research activities of the Department, to contribute to teaching and to establish and maintain broad links across CBS.

PROFESSOR LEVEL

Responsibilities

  • Personal research meeting high international standards, including responsibility for publishing, scientific communication and research-based teaching.
  • The academic development of the discipline.
  • Communication of knowledge in society, including participation in public debate, sustaining and developing CBS’s role and function for business and society as a whole and contribution to the international reputation of MPP and CBS.
  • Coaching of junior colleagues with regard to research development and publications.
  • Research management, initiation of research projects, supervision of PhD students, international research co-operation, reviewing for academic journals.
  • Research education and further training of researchers, supervision of assistantprofessors and assessment committee work.
  • Teaching and associated examination in existing CBS programs, including Executive Education.
  • Promoting CBS’s academic reputation.
  • Initiating, fund raising and coordinating research projects.
  • Promoting the teaching and research capabilities of Copenhagen Business School and other relevant assignments at Copenhagen Business School.
  • Contributing to the administrative responsibilities of the Department and to CBS-widetasks.
  • Communicating findings to the public in general and to CBS’s stakeholders inparticular.
  • Active participation in the regular research activities, such as research seminars, workshops and conferences.  

Qualifications

  • The successful applicant must have a strong record of original research publications at an international level as well as substantial teaching experience in (some of) the areas outlined above. In addition, emphasis will be given to the applicants’ ability to assume teaching/study program coordination.
  • Applicants must be able to document relevant, significant, original, and current research at an international level in one or more of the fields of entrepreneurship and organization studies, design and innovation theory, cultural theory, cultural economics, aesthetics and art theory, media and technology.
  • Applicants must be able to document pedagogical qualifications, competences at development, and excellence and innovation in teaching.
  • The applicant must have professional proficiency in English (written and spoken).

  • Contributing to the administrative responsibilities of the Department and to CBS-widetasks
  • Communicating findings to the public in general and to CBS’s stakeholders in particular, including participating in the public debate
  • Research meeting high international standards, including responsibility for the academic development of the relevant discipline
  • Responsibility for publishing, scientific communication and research-based teaching
  • Active participation in the regular research activities, such as research seminars, workshops and conferences
  • The associate professor is expected to contribute to the development and application ofthe research of the department’s research areas and to maintain and strengthen CBS’s international research position.  

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in an appropriate field
  • Documented teaching qualifications or other material for the evaluation of his/her pedagogical level. Please see guidelines for teaching portfolios.
  • Documented research production at an international level, including publications in the field’s internationally recognized journals
  • Professional proficiency in English (written and spoken)

Recruitment procedure

The Recruitment Committee will shortlist minimum two applicants; when possible five or more applicants will be shortlisted. The shortlisted applicants will be assessed by the Assessment Committee. All applicants will be notified of their status in the recruitment process shortly after the application deadline.


The applicants selected for assessment will be notified about the composition of the Assessment Committee and later in the process about the result of the assessment.
