Position Summary

The Paul Rubacha Department of Real Estate invites applications for a Professor of Practice position with teaching and administrative responsibilities. The candidate will teach classes in the department’s Baker M.P.S. Program in Real Estate and assist with departmental administrative needs.

The primary teaching responsibilities will be in Cornell’s NYC facilities, with occasional instruction at the Ithaca campus. In consultation with the department chair, the Professor of Practice will develop and teach classes in the Baker M.P.S. Program that leverage the individual’s industry experience.

The ideal candidate should possess a professional master’s or related degree, understand the needs and goals of professional master’s students in real estate, have outstanding communication skills, and experience working in complex professional environments with multiple stakeholders. Prior experience teaching in and/or directing a professional master’s program is desirable but not required. Expertise in any area of real estate is encouraged, though the department is particularly building expertise in development.


Department Details

The Paul Rubacha Department of Real Estate is jointly overseen by the SC Johnson College of Business (SCJCB) and the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning (AAP). The department manages a two-year professional master’s program in real estate, the Baker M.P.S., with approximately 100 students.

The program emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach to real estate education, integrating skills from urban planning, architecture, law, engineering, finance, and economics, alongside input from industry professionals.

The department currently has six tenured faculty, one senior lecturer, and two Professors of the Practice, supporting its multidisciplinary structure. Starting August 2026, second-year Baker M.P.S. students will have the option to take classes at Cornell NYC facilities and participate in local immersion experiences.


About the SC Johnson College of Business

The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business combines three schools:

  • Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management – MBA, Accelerated MBA, Executive MBA, and Ph.D. programs, taught at Ithaca, Cornell Tech NYC, and other locations.

  • Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management – Undergraduate, M.S., M.P.S., and Ph.D. programs, with research in management, economics, and interdisciplinary collaborations.

  • Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration – Top-ranked management program with undergraduate, master’s, and Ph.D. programs, AACSB accredited, with strong industry connections.


About the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning

Cornell AAP is home to nearly 1,000 students, 120 faculty, and 65 staff, bridging research, inquiry, and design in the built environment. The college includes five departments, 20 degree programs, 18 faculty-led labs, and the Cornell Mui Ho Center for Cities, fostering partnerships for positive impact in cities nationally and internationally.

Salary

In compliance with New York's Pay Transparency Act, the minimum annual base salary range for this position is $120,000 - $230,000 for 12 months at 100% FTE. Salary will be adjusted proportionally for appointments less than 100% FTE. Offers consider scope and responsibilities, work experience, education, discipline, and relevant skills.
