Terms:  Tenure-track position.

This position is in either the French Common Law Program, taught in French; the English Common Law Program, taught in English; or both.  Candidates should note at the top of their covering letter whether they are applying to the English program or the French program, or both.  The anticipated start date is July 1, 2020.

Academic Duties: The functions of a member of the academic staff include, in varying proportions: a) teaching activities; b) scholarly activities revealed by research, artistic or literary creation, or professional work; c) academic service activities; and d) supervision of graduate students.

Wages: Salary scale for an Assistant Professor starts at $86,986 and at $96,088 for an Associate Professor.

Location of work: Faculty of Law, Common Law Section, University of Ottawa, 57 Louis-Pasteur Pvt., Ottawa, ON K1N 6N5, Canada.

Relocation expenses: The successful candidate may be eligible for reimbursement of relocation expenses in accordance with University policy.

Skill requirements: Prior to appointment, candidates must hold an undergraduate degree in common law and have completed or be on the verge of completing either a master’s or doctoral degree in law. In the case of a candidate currently enrolled in an LL.M., the candidate must acquire the degree within 6 months of appointment. In the case of a candidate currently enrolled in a doctoral program, the candidate’s supervisor will be expected to verify that there is a reasonable likelihood that the dissertation will be submitted prior to appointment.

Preference will be given to candidates with superior academic records, established backgrounds in research and publication, administrative and leadership experience, and the capacity for excellence in teaching and contribution to the academic life and governance of the Faculty.  Passive knowledge of the other official language in Canada is a requirement for tenure.  English-French bilingualism is a fundamental value of the University of Ottawa.
