Job description Cheaper access to space provides societal benefits in the form of increased equality globally. Effective heat exchange is crucial to many industrial sectors to reach global climate goals. Additively manufactured (AM) metallic components of relatively complex shapes ultimately may result in a cheaper component. Raw surfaces on additively manufactured components differ significantly in structure and characteristics compared to traditional knowledge about surface roughness and its influence on pressure losses and heat transfer is partly unexplored ground. The study is broad and ranges from manufacturing to component design when e.g. various manufacturing parameters such as build direction have a large impact on material structure and surface roughness and in turn have a large impact on hydraulic, strength and thermal design of components. A concentrated project part will be focusing on modeling the effect of surface roughness validated with experiments and linked to surface measurement and manufacturing parameters. On a higher level, manufacturing of AM heat exchangers in a European collaboration will be managed followed by final component testing and evaluation of hydraulic and thermal performance. Cooperation with industrial partners in national and international projects is expected, including e.g. gas turbines, rocket engines and heat exchanger entities. Candidates should have proven background and interest in thermodynamics, heat transfer, computational fluid dynamics and experimental methods. What we offer
