Job description
The University of Stavanger invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Marketing at Department of Innovation, Leadership and Marketing.

Marketing Innovation-Platforms

Firms are increasingly collaborating with large numbers of outside partners (customers, suppliers, complementors, etc.) in their innovation activities. A number of such efforts are organized around collaboration platforms. Attracting collaborators to such platforms and organizing the activities is strategically important for the success of innovation initiatives. The project title refers to the activities and strategies used by firms to market innovation-platforms to prospective collaborators. Thus, we are seeking candidates interested in working within the areas of marketing strategy, business models, and networks.

The responsibility of the Postdoctoral Fellow is to work on the project, marketing of innovation-platform, in close collaboration with the principal investigators, Professor Kenneth H Wathne and Professor Øystein D. Fjeldstad. This includes activities related to the development of this research area at University of Stavanger Business School.

The objective of the position is to strengthen research, and to give researchers/scholars holding a doctoral degree within relevant academic fields the opportunity for further academic qualifications.

The appointment is for 2 years of research duties exclusively, but may be extended to three years including obligations related to teaching and supervision (in total, 33%). For postdoctoral positions that extend more than 2 years, compulsory duties related to teaching and supervision are included during the employment period. During the first year, the Postdoctoral Fellow will participate in "NyTi", which is the university's supervision and integration program for new teachers.

The research project will be carried out at the University of Stavanger. It is assumed that the appointee will work full time on the project and that she/he will participate in the academic community at the faculty and university.


Qualification requirements

The applicant must submit a description of a research project and a plan for its completion. It must be clear from the application in what way the project will add to the applicant's competence.

Qualifications within the areas of creativity, innovation and commercialization of research will be given emphasis in appointments to academic positions at the University.

Qualifications requirements:

  • PhD with a specialization in marketing or strategy is preferred, but applicants specializing in related areas will also be considered
  • The PhD must be completed no later than at the date of employment
  • Good command of both oral and written English


In the assessment of applicants the following criteria will be emphasized:

  • relevance, quality and feasibility as it pertains to the announced topic on marketing innovation-platforms
  • submitted scientific work and the applicant's personal skills for completing the project within the timeframe
  • good teamwork, communication skills and ability to participate in research communities across the university
  • personal skills and motivation for the position
