The Professorship “Governance in International Agribusiness” at the TUM School of Life Sciences Weihenstephan and the TUM School of Management offers a Ph.D. student position in International Economics starting September 1st, 2020 in the Professorship “Governance in International Agribusiness” at the TUM School of Management (Freising-Weihenstephan Campus). Initial appointment will be 2 years with the possibility of extension. Salary is in accordance with the German State Regulated Public Salary Scale (TV-L E13, 50% to 75% depending upon qualifications).

starting September 1st, 2020 in the Professorship “Governance in International Agribusiness” at the TUM School of Management (Freising-Weihenstephan Campus). Initial appointment will be 2 years with the possibility of extension. Salary is in accordance with the German State Regulated Public Salary Scale (TV-L E13, 50% to 75% depending upon qualifications).

Tasks

The successful candidate is expected to actively engage in an international project called BATModel (Better Agri-food Trade Modelling for policy ANalysis) funded under the European Union Horizon2020 program. The overall goal of BATModel is to improve existing trade modelling tools for the analysis of international trade issues with a focus on food and agricultural commodities. In the context of this project the Governance in International Agribusiness group leads a work package on Geographical Indications (GIs).

Tasks are:

- To develop models to analyze the international trade effects of GIs;
- To assess the international trade impacts of different schemes under trade negotiations.

Qualifications

- An excellent university degree in economics or related quantitative disciplines
- Strong theoretical and modeling skills (e.g., international trade, industrial organization, microeconomics)
- [alternatively, strong analytical and methodological skills with a focus on quantitative data analysis]
- Proficiency in mathematical software [alternatively, statistical/econometrics software]
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Strong motivation to publish in international leading economics journals
- Personal initiative, commitment and an excellent team player
