An opportunity to make a difference to men’s health

Supported by the Australian Institute of Family Studies (AIFS), this newly created PhD scholarship will give the right applicant the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to men’s health and wellbeing. 

The PhD candidate will learn advanced health economic and econometric techniques, and apply these to large national data from Ten to Men: The Australian Longitudinal Study on Male Health to answer important health and social policy questions. 

The AIFS is the Australian Government’s key independent research body and advisor on family wellbeing. Their guiding purpose is to create and communicate knowledge to accelerate positive outcomes for families. Their research is directly used to inform government policy.

Under this PhD opportunity, the right candidate will undertake a research placement at AIFS, which will offer a unique opportunity to develop research capabilities at the academia-policy nexus.  

The Centre for Health Economics at Monash University

The Centre for Health Economics (CHE) is an internationally renowned institution that has contributed to academic research and public policy in the economics of health and health care for over 30 years. Scholarship and other financial support

Successful applicants will receive:

  • A scholarship covering tuition fees
  • A tax-free stipend of $35,000 AUD to $49,000 AUD per annum full-time rate (amount dependent on academic excellence and relevant experience)  

Additional earning opportunities are available through research and teaching assistance work. PhD candidates also have opportunities for funded travel to attend conferences. 

Scholarship commencement: January/February 2024  

Who we are looking for

This offer is for domestic students only.    

To be competitive for a scholarship, applicants must have:

  • A strong research background in economics, econometrics, health economics, statistics, or a relevant quantitative discipline, as well as a demonstrated research experience or interest in the relationship between social and economic factors and health
  • An excellent academic track record with a 4-year honours degree or 2-year master’s degree (with a strong research component)
