The Centre for R&D Monitoring (ECOOM) is an interuniversity consortium of which one division is housed within the Faculty of Economics and Business at the KU Leuven. ECOOM develops a consistent system of R&D and Innovation (RD&I) indicators. These indicators are designed to assist the Flemish government in mapping and monitoring the RD&I efforts in Flanders. Within this context, ECOOM is the pre-eminent Flemish site for science, technology and innovation studies, and has become a prominent research centre with international visibility. To support our research activities, we are currently looking for a


• You will assist in the implementation of the Flemish part of the Community Innovation Survey (CIS) and the Eurostat-OECD R&D survey. This involves survey design and development, data cleaning and processing, statistical analysis and the interpretation of data.
• You are expected to obtain a Ph.D. in Business Economics at the KU Leuven. This involves coursework, seminar presentations and similar activities as well as the preparation of a Ph.D. thesis which consists of four research papers.
• You will also have the chance to present your work regularly at international conferences and to attend summer schools and similar events.


• You hold a Master’s degree in Economics or related field. 
• You are interested in developing the skills necessary to conduct policy-relevant research in the field of Economics of Innovation. You also have an interest in using micro-econometric techniques. 
• Basic knowledge of quantitative data processing and micro-econometrics, as well as general computer skills and information retrieval skills are expected. The knowledge of the software STATA is a plus. 
• You are fluent in written and spoken English. Knowledge of Dutch is a plus, but not required for the position.


We offer a full-time position in the internationally oriented research environment of the KU Leuven, preferably starting summer of 2020. The appointment is a fixed-term for four years. The salary will be assessed in accordance to the legal salary grade systems existing at the KU Leuven.
