The Annenberg School of Journalism at the University of Southern California seeks a highly qualified adjunct instructor to be our Media Center Coach focused on storytelling for diverse audiences across all platforms


Work in a fast-paced news environment with journalism students in the Media Center at the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism who are producing daily news stories for radio, television and digital including social media, newsletters and audio briefings. This position is primarily working with students telling stories for Latinx audiences. The ideal candidate will be fluent in English and Spanish and may have broadcast experience along with digital and social media expertise.  This position requires someone who is patient and nurturing to students who have little to no journalism experience. Applicants must be available for 5 consecutive hours twice per week, or for one full day, Monday through Thursday.

Job tasks:

  • Support and guide producers in identifying story ideas and managing deadlines.
  • Work one-on-one with student reporters on story development, interviewing, writing, gathering sound or pictures, using ambient sound, recording voice tracks and the final production of their stories.
  • Provide tips on how to make improvements.
  • Assist students in producing multimedia elements to go along with text reporting.
  • Guide students in distributing content through social media and other means.
  • Provide consultation on legal, ethical and usage questions.
  • Conduct workshops for students if needed.


  • Degree required: BA or BS
  • At least five years of journalism experience.
  • Experience producing high-quality, creative video stories.
  • Digital, social and multimedia experience preferred.
  • Spanish speaker or multilingual.
  • Familiarity with storytelling for diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with AP Stylebook.
  • Proficiency with iNews production software.
  • Familiarity with Premiere editing.
