Lecturer of Marketing & Management Communication: SC Johnson College of Business, School of Hotel Administration

The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business invites applicants for a Lecturer position in our Marketing & Management Communications area, with an intended start date of July 1, 2022. The position will be based in Ithaca, NY.

Cornell University embraces diversity and seeks candidates who will contribute to a climate that supports students, faculty and staff of all identities and backgrounds. We strongly encourage individuals from underrepresented and/or marginalized identities to apply.

Responsibilities of the position include teaching “Business Writing for Hospitality Professionals,” a first-year core course in the School of Hotel Administration that emphasizes written communication in professional contexts and includes an introduction to presentational speaking in business. Each academic year, Lecturers teach five courses and hold regular, individual conferences with students to discuss the students' papers and presentations. Being accessible to students is critical. Lecturers teach multi-section courses and collaborate extensively on curriculum development; student assignments; School projects; and, at times, research projects.

Although candidates may be traditional academics or communication specialists from the corporate world, the most attractive candidate is likely to possess the following job qualifications:

  • Discipline-related master’s degree or Ph.D. in Communication or related field, preferably from a program that focuses on professional communication or rhetoric
  • Experience teaching in a four-year accredited college or university, preferably teaching multi-section courses
  • Experience and skill in teaching writing in professional contexts—and willingness to teach both written and oral communication
  • Demonstrated experience and interest in collaborating with colleagues.
  • Experience in business, as well as experience presenting at business, technical, or professional communication conferences

The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business (established on July 1, 2016) combines three Schools: the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management, the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, and the School of Hotel Administration. Teaching across schools within the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business may be possible, specifically in the SC Johnson Graduate School of Management and the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management.
