Why Your Role Matters:

 

The School of the Arts and Media is seeking to appoint a Lecturer B in Screen Production to contribute to teaching and research in interactive media. You will develop and deliver practice-oriented undergraduate courses in interactive storytelling, interactive media, and the use of artificial intelligence in media production for the Screen Production major in the Bachelor of Media. The appointee will work closely with other members of the academic and professional staff in the development of course offerings.

In this position you will undertake, and produce, high level research in a relevant field of media production and be able to demonstrate a successful track record of traditional publications and/or non-traditional research outputs and the potential to obtain grants and conduct supervision of Honours and higher degree research students.

 

The role of Lecturer reports to the Head of School and has no reports.

 

Responsibilities:

Specific accountabilities for this role include (but are not limited to):

  • Demonstrate and continuously develop a well-defined teaching philosophy that inspires student learning.
  • Conduct classes, assess student learning achievements and support students in postgraduate and undergraduate courses in line with UNSW policy.
  • Design and develop learning activities and resources, and provide assessment and feedback using a range of suitable approaches and learning environments.
  • Initiate the development of experimental approaches to teaching and learning with the support of more senior academics.
  • Support learning progression with students as individuals (through such activities as one-to-one consultation) and as a cohort (through general course related advice) to achieve positive learning and employability outcomes for students.
  • Manage course administration as Course Authority, including academic quality assurance.

 

Who You Are: 

The skills and experience you will have for the Lecturer (Level B) position include (but are not limited to):

  • PhD in a relevant field from a recognised institution, with experience in the arts or creative industries more broadly in interactive media or related fields strongly preferred.
  • A strong national and international profile and specialised expertise in one or more of the following areas: interactive media, interactive storytelling, automation and media, game design, user experience design, and related areas. The appointee will possess skills and experience across industry and/or arts practice/research/theory.
  • A track record of high-quality traditional and/or non-traditional research in a relevant field, demonstrated by publications, exhibitions, grants, awards, prizes, or similar markers of achievement.
  • Demonstrated experience and excellence in teaching media production courses.
  • Evidence of the potential to undertake Honours and Higher Degree Research supervision
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives
