Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
As part of the UMD SPH, the HPM is a nationally recognized program for innovative research and scholarship, leading health, economic and social policy issues that translate to exceptional teaching and training in: Master of Health Administration (online), Master of Public Health (Health Care Management; Health Equity; Health Policy Analysis and Evaluation; Public Health Practice and Policy (online)) and PhD in Health Services Research. Two certification programs include a Certificate in Gerontology and a Certificate in Public Health. HPM’s 13 full-time faculty include health services, health management, economics, public health, public policy and organizational
development disciplines. Faculty are nationally and internationally recognized as basic, applied, and community- engaged scholars with leadership positions in key professional organizations. With a core knowledge base in public health, health care management, health economics and delivery systems, they conduct research aimed at addressing local, state and national issues in health care systems, health care delivery and management, health services policy, disparities in access to care, long term care, chronic disease and disability care and financing and economics in public health services delivery. The School of Public Health is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health and is located on the flagship campus of the University of Maryland. The school’s vision is “to be a leader in the discovery, application and dissemination of public health knowledge in the State of Maryland, the nation and the world.” The successful candidate will contribute to fulfilling this vision.

Successful candidates for the position are expected to teach health policy and health
services courses to undergraduate and graduate students at fundamental and intermediate levels, mentor students, and engage in university and professional service. Participation in research is encouraged but not required.

SALARY and APPOINTMENT DATE. This is a 9-month position with an annual contract renewal based on performance. Summer and winter teaching for additional pay may also be available. The contract length is 1 year.

Appointments may begin August 22 2023 or a mutually agreed-upon date to start teaching in Fall 2023.

Education:
Qualified candidates should possess a doctoral degree in health services, health policy, management, or a closely related public health field.

Experience:
Candidates must have independent teaching experience.

  • Candidates that demonstrate the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses and mentor students. Effective interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills are essential.
  • Candidates should have experience with and enjoy working with a diverse student population.
  • Candidates should have experience developing and revising courses.
  • Candidates should have a passion for inclusive teaching and have demonstrated evidence-based pedagogies in courses taught previously.
  • The optimal candidate will have public health practices experience relevant to Health Policy and Management.
