Role Description


Applications are invited for a full-time Lectureship in Film and Television, available from September 2022. The lectureship will be appointed on a research and teaching contract. You will join a dynamic, innovative and rapidly expanding department that brings together research, teaching and commercial activities in the fields of film, television, theatre and interactive media. The department features a bespoke £30m building with superb, industry-standard facilities, which opened in 2010 and all of our programmes have a strong focus on creative practice and in preparing students for careers in the creative industries. In 2022 Theatre, Film, Television and Interactive Media is joining forces with Music to form a new School of Digital Creativity and Performing Arts that will further enhance our profile and our interdisciplinary operations in teaching, research, knowledge exchange and professional practice in the creative industries.


You will develop innovative teaching materials, techniques and module design and take responsibility for the quality of the provision on the BSc Film and Television production and other programmes within the department and new School as appropriate. This will involve planning, organising, delivering and assessing specific modules. You will develop and undertake research projects within your field leading to the production and publication of high quality research outputs and outcomes. You will also undertake departmental citizenship and administrative responsibilities including the pastoral supervision of students.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

We are seeking an outstanding individual who has the ambition to have substantial impact in their field, can demonstrate international research potential, and who can inspire students through innovative teaching. As the successful candidate, you will have a PhD in a relevant field, be able to demonstrate advanced knowledge and understanding of contemporary film and television forms, production practices, institutions and technologies and debates and have demonstrable research interests in either global developments in film and television or the convergence of media forms, practices and industries. You will also have experience of teaching in Higher Education and the ability to play a significant role in the delivery and development of our existing and planned undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
