Overview:

The School of Languages, Linguistics and Film is looking to appoint to a Lecturer in Film, to deliver teaching and assessment across undergraduate and, as appropriate, taught postgraduate programmes. Duties will include research, and publication, convening and teaching undergraduate modules in the Department of Film, contributing to MA provision as appropriate, (co)-supervising PhD students, co-supervision for UG research projects, undertaking administrative roles as required within the Department of Film, and taking an active role in the Film Department’s vibrant and expansive research culture, including the Centre for Film & Ethics and/or Film Cultures. You will be able to develop new modules, and adapt existing ones, in line with your specific research strengths. You will also be expected to contribute to the life of the School in a more general way, for instance by undertaking appropriate administrative and pastoral duties within the Department of Film. 

Applications are invited from specialists with a film studies research profile in film history and theory, ideally with specialism in British, Black British, Afro-Caribbean cinemas, Asian British film; African Cinema, colonial British filmmaking; Film collectives, co-operatives, distributors and societies; British documentary cinema and artists’ film (as these relate to the aforementioned).

You will hold a PhD in Film studies or have a relevant professional qualification or equivalent professional experience, together with the ability to deliver teaching and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The ability to work constructively and flexibly with colleagues, and good organisational and communication skills are also essential. Evidence of high quality research and publications in renowned journals is also expected.

The post is full time and permanent from 1 September 2020. Starting salary will be £42,433 - £44,807 per annum. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
