The Graduate School of Management at the University of California, Davis, seeks temporary instructors to teach a course on Data Visualization for the academic quarter of Fall Quarter of 2020. The course is part of the curriculum for the Masters of Science in Business Analytics program, offered in downtown San Francisco. (See https://gsm.ucdavis.edu/msba-academics for more details.)

Course topics include an overview of vocabulary, theory and principles as well as the algorithms and methods for (structured and unstructured) data visualization. The course will teach students how to present information in an understandable and efficient way for the purposes of data analysis and effective communication of results. The course can also empower students to critically analyze good and bad visualizations, as well as ways to improve on them.

Positions are contingent on funding and pending administrative approval. Salary is based on ability and experience. Applicants should have a relevant graduate degree, preferably a PhD in the areas of Computer Science, Statistics, Information Systems, Business Analytics or a related field. Applicants with significant industry experience in this domain will be preferred. In lieu of a graduate degree, we will also consider applicants with extensive relevant work experience (preferably at the executive level).

Unit 18 Lecturers are governed under a collective bargaining agreement (American Federation of Teachers (AFT) - Non-Senate Instructional Unit). Under this contract, once a lecturer accumulates enough quarters of service, the lecturer can be reviewed for a Continuing Lecturer position.
