The HSM is about to launch Vision 2024, an ambitious strategy for the 5 years ahead in the run-up to its first centenary. In the course of those 5 years and backed by a major fundraising campaign, the HSM is aiming to create and maintain a highly motivated diverse team in order to completely refurbish its galleries and back-of-house spaces, to create an award-winning visitor experience, to maintain and extend its reputation as one of the world-leaders in research and teaching and to make its collections fully accessible physically and digitally to audiences world-wide.

Together with the Head of Research, Teaching and Collections, and the Head of Operations and Planning, the HPEP will support the Director in developing, implementing, and delivering Vision 2024 and in managing change, playing a significant role in the planning and oversight of all public programming within the Widening Engagement Strategy of the University’s Gardens, Libraries and Museums (GLAM).

The History of Science Museum (HSM) is one of the four museums of the University of Oxford which include the Ashmolean, The University Museum of Natural History, and the Pitt Rivers Museum. The Museum occupies one of the oldest purpose-built museum buildings in the world, the ‘Old Ashmolean Building’ of 1683.

With its unique collection of astronomical instruments from the Islamic World and one of the finest collections of European Medieval and Renaissance instruments, HSM ranks amongst the leading museums in its field. It is a national and international centre of excellence for research and teaching in the material culture of science, and the interpretation of its collection is supported by a lively programme of exhibitions and public events for a range of audiences.
