The International Program on Communication Production (IPCP) in the College of Communication and Design at I-Shou University in Taiwan, ROC, invites applicants for a full-time, Assistant Professor-ranked faculty position in visual art, or strategic visual communication with a preference for new media production, beginning on August 1, 2021.

 

I-shou University is one of the most prominent private universities in Taiwan. It is ranked top 800-1000 universities and top 200 young universities globally, and top 200 in Asia. Currently, it has 17,000 students in nine colleges, ranging from science and engineering to communication and design to medicine. The university is located in Kaohsiung, the second-largest city in Taiwan. A harbor city sunny all year round, Kaohsiung offers rich cultural and industrial experiences to both visitors and residents.

The faculty vacancy in graphic design/visual communication/web design/ and/or new media production-related field at Assistant Professor rank, full-time, begins on August 1, 2021. The language of instruction is English.

 

The successful candidate should be able to teach courses mainly in either: (1) graphic design, publication design, visual communication, and/or (2) web/new media production. Job responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses, maintaining a research agenda and/or high-level creative projects, engaging in departmental committees, professional services, and industry collaborations. 

 

The prospective candidates with a Doctoral degree (most desired). An ABD, or a Master of Fine Arts with industry experiences in the related fields would be considered. Proofs of teaching experience, or visual design industry experiences, and evidence of related accomplishments are required. Prospective candidates should demonstrate strong professional credentials and have an interest in developing other courses in emerging media that intersect advertising and video production. Candidates should be committed to the pedagogy of diverse artistic communities and approaches. Candidates also need to demonstrate the ability of teaching in a full-English environment.  Applicants should possess hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge of Adobe® Creative Cloud® and an understanding of industry expectations for aspiring professionals. Candidates should have broad training and be able to teach a variety of undergraduate courses in graphic design for print, digital, and online media. Narrative imagination, design, interaction, and application (digital/social media) knowledge are a must. Candidates with video production, motion graphics, 2D and/or 3D animation, other related software, and visual design knowledge/skills are also desirable. An emphasis on Global Digital Media Practices is particularly preferable.

 

The principal mission of the IPCP in the College of Communication of Design at the I-Shou University in Taiwan, ROC is to provide preparation in visual communication practice and research based on a grounding in the liberal arts and sciences. The Program aims to provide its students hands-on opportunities to help them develop into thoughtful, caring, engaged, skilled communication professionals and global citizens. The faculty is committed to making contributions to the discipline of visual communication through scholarship and professional practice.

  1. Cover letter: indicate the intention and rank of position. In the letter, include your research plan and teaching philosophy.
  2. Completed curriculum vitae, including a publication and/or exhibition list. Prepare the CV in a chronological style with the most recent experience and works first.

  4. Copy of Ph.D. dissertation abstract or MFA thesis or along with the approval page signed by the Committee.
  5. Two sample syllabi of the courses you intend to offer with explanations about their originality and connection with the focus of the college.
  6. Other supporting documents, such as proof of degree awarded, Mandarin/English teaching, or certifications will be a plus.

NOTE: Teaching responsibility is 9 credit hours (3 courses) per semester. Successful candidates will be expected to teach fundamental and advanced courses at the undergraduate level in English. Compensation includes a competitive salary, healthcare insurance, housing subsidy, and annual round-trip air tickets for home visiting, as well as other benefits. The healthcare insurance in Taiwan is one of the best in the world. All full-time faculty and immediate family members are eligible for the insurance.
