Your duties

Despite considerable economic progress, malnutrition remains an important constraint to health, cognitive development and economic outcomes, as well as a heavy burden to the health system. Moreover, in several developing countries, the affordability of healthy diets fluctuates largely during the year. At the same time, overnutrition and dietary patterns in rich countries have important implications for public health and the environment.

The doctoral researcher will take part in research that may fall within the following two themes: (1) the role of food production, agricultural markets, value chain development and food environments in providing nutritious food at an affordable price; (2) agriculture and sustainable food systems within Europe.
Research may be based on existing data and/or may involve the collection of household survey or experimental data.

Your tasks include:

- Design of research questions and investigation of literature and methods to address these
- Potential design and implementation of survey or experimental data collection in developing countries or EU
- Empirical analysis of quantitative data using statistical methods;
- Active interaction with other researchers in the department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development, across disciplinary boundaries;
- Presentation, publication and communication of research results;
- Limited teaching responsibilities

Your profile

- You hold a good Master degree in Agricultural Economics, Economics, Nutrition or a related discipline
- You are passionate about investigation and trying to improve our understanding about topics in the field of agricultural, food and sustainable nutrition.
- You are able and willing to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with other researchers
- You are proficient in spoken and written English
- You are willing and able to work under field conditions in developing countries (depending on the research theme and if circumstances allow)
- Work experience in field work and strong quantitative research skills are a plus

The project will be based in Göttingen. Field work may take place in other countries.

Please send your application containing the usual documents (motivation letter, full CV with the contact information of two referees, copies of university certificates and transcripts, and a 1-2 page summary of your Master thesis) in electronic form as a single pdf-file by October 20, 2020 to https://lotus2.gwdg.de/uni/uzdv/perso/knr_100752.nsf.
