Overview

Purdue University Northwest (PNW) invites nominations and applications for the position of Teddy Jacobi Dean of the College of Business. Guided by a vision to cultivate leaders, inspire excellence, and impact the world, the university seeks an exceptional, innovative, and collaborative academic leader to shape the future of the college.

This is a strategic leadership role at a transformative time—for the university, for Northwest Indiana and the Greater Chicago Area, and for higher education broadly.

A member of the Purdue University System, PNW is a diverse, student-centered institution serving over 9,500 students (6,100 core students) across more than 60 academic programs at the baccalaureate, master’s, and applied doctoral levels.


Position Details

Reporting to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the Dean provides strategic academic leadership that advances the university’s core missions of learning, discovery, and engagement.

The successful candidate will:

  • Champion academic excellence, innovation, and collaboration.

  • Lead and implement strategies aligned with PNW’s strategic plan Excellence Evolving (2025–2030).

  • Address the challenges and opportunities facing public universities today.

  • Foster a climate that is inclusive and supportive of all populations across the university.

The Dean will build upon strong existing programs and a commitment to improving life and opportunity for students—including first-generation, adult, and other non-traditional learners—as well as for faculty, staff, and the broader region. Collaboration with faculty, staff, donors, alumni, and community partners is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide academic and strategic leadership to the College of Business.

  • Maintain and advance AACSB accreditation.

  • Lead academic and research initiatives within the college.

  • Ensure exceptional student learning experiences.

  • Support faculty scholarship and growth.

  • Lead fundraising, resource development, and external engagement.

  • Strengthen partnerships with industry, government, education, and community stakeholders.

  • Oversee academic program development and enhancement, including graduate programs.

  • Manage assessment of student learning outcomes.

  • Guide strategic budgeting and resource allocation.

  • Collaborate with other academic deans on interdisciplinary initiatives.


About the College of Business

The College enrolls approximately 1,080 undergraduate and graduate students and offers AACSB-accredited programs including:

  • Accounting

  • Management

  • Human Resource Management

  • Finance

  • Business Information & Analytics

  • Marketing

  • Hospitality & Tourism Management (undergraduate)

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA)

  • Master of Accountancy (MACC)

The college also offers several minors, certificates, and licensure programs.


Required Education

  • An earned doctorate or other terminal degree in a discipline appropriate to the College of Business.


Required Experience & Qualifications

The successful candidate must demonstrate:

  • Academic qualifications for appointment at the rank of Professor within the college.

  • A student-centered approach to teaching and learning excellence.

  • Leadership experience in roles such as department chair, associate dean, associate provost, or similar.

  • Experience managing financial and personnel resources.

  • Experience working with external stakeholders: alumni, donors, industry, government, or community partners.

  • Experience with accreditation or assessment at the program, college, or university level.
