Position Summary


The College of Business at Oregon State University invites applications for one full-time (1.0 FTE), nine month, tenure-track accounting professor of open rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) to begin September 16, 2019.

 

Primary teaching responsibilities will include delivering undergraduate and graduate courses in accounting. Teaching expertise in any area of accounting will be considered (with a preference for tax, financial, or accounting information systems). Scholarly activities are expected to result in publications in high quality peer-reviewed journals. Service includes engaging in appropriate activities within the College, University, and accounting profession (including professional societies), contributing to College and University strategic initiatives, and enhancing student and faculty experiences in the accounting profession.

 

To be considered for appointment, a candidate must have a Ph.D. in Accounting from an AACSB accredited school by the employment start date and an active research agenda with evidence of potential to publish in highly-ranked accounting journals, such as the Journal of Accounting Research, the Journal of Accounting and Economics, Accounting Review, Review of Accounting Studies, Contemporary Accounting Research, or Accounting Organizations and Society. Faculty are also expected to deliver high quality teaching and to engage in appropriate service activities within both the University and the accounting profession.

Position Duties
For Assistant Professor:
45% Teaching
Teaching responsibilities will include delivering undergraduate and graduate courses in accounting.

 

45% Scholarly
Activities are expected to result in publications that advance knowledge or improve accounting practice.

 

10% Service
Activities include those that enhance student and faculty experiences in the accounting profession, and working with appropriate professional societies.

 

For Associate or Full Professor:
40% Teaching
Teaching responsibilities will include delivering undergraduate and graduate courses in accounting.

 

40% Scholarly
Activities are expected to result in publications that advance knowledge or improve accounting practice.

 

20% Service
Activities include those that enhance student and faculty experiences in the accounting profession, and working with appropriate professional societies.

 

Minimum/Required Qualifications


At the Assistant rank:
An appropriate earned doctorate degree from an AACSB accredited university or equivalent with an emphasis in accounting.

Collegiality and a strong interest in maintaining a well-respected accounting program.

Evidence of an active research agenda with evidence of potential to publish in highly-ranked accounting journals.

Evidence of teaching effectiveness.

A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

 

At the rank of Associate Professor or Professor:
An appropriate earned doctorate degree from an AACSB accredited university or equivalent with an emphasis in accounting.

Evidence of teaching, scholarship and service consistent with the OSU criteria for promotion to the rank of Associate or Full Professor.

Collegiality and evidence of contributions in maintaining a well-respected accounting program.

Evidence of an active research agenda demonstrated by recent publication in highly-ranked accounting journals.

Evidence of teaching effectiveness.

A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

 

Preferred (Special) Qualifications
Professional certification and/or prior industry experience.

Teaching expertise in tax, financial, or accounting information systems.

 

Preferred qualifications include having manuscripts at advanced stages in the publication process at highly-ranked accounting journals.

 

Working Conditions / Work Schedule
Typical of academic research and teaching environment. Some evenings and weekends required.
