The Black School of Business at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, is seeking qualified applicants for a tenure-track position in Management Information Systems (MIS) beginning in August 2020. Candidates must have obtained either a Ph.D. or Doctorate of Business Administration in Information Systems or Management Science prior to August 1, 2020 to be considered for this appointment. Applicants with research and teaching in the analytics domain as well as functional experience in an area using analytics will be given strong preference. A minimum two years of relevant industry experience is required, additional professional certifications are preferred. Both high-quality teaching and an active program of scholarship are expected of all members of the Penn State Behrend faculty. The Black School of Business is accredited by AACSB International, listed among the Best Business Schools by Princeton Review and offers 9 undergraduate majors; a part-time/evening MBA program delivered at two locations; a Master of Professional Accounting (MPAcc); and an online program in Masters in Project Management (MPM). The School has a focus on interdisciplinary programs such as the Interdisciplinary Business & Engineering Studies degree - one of only a few such distinctive programs in the country - and an International Business degree, which also allows students to specialize in a functional area such as business economics or finance. The Black School of Business shares a new $30 million facility with the School of Engineering providing a basis for a multi-disciplinary educational experience for students, interdisciplinary research for faculty, and joint opportunities for industry engagement. The $20 million endowment, the market value of which is approximately $33 million today, provides significant support for the School’s programs. The endowment helps fund undergraduate scholarships, graduate assistantships, library and information technology resources, outreach activities, several faculty chairs, and endowed professorships, as well as new programming initiatives. Teaching responsibilities: This position may involve teaching in the University’s online MBA program as well as future hybrid or online programs. The successful candidate must be able to teach one or more of the following: database, systems analysis or system design; business analytics, business intelligence, data warehousing, data analytics, or other relevant courses in an analytics program. Research Support: Includes guaranteed summer research support, computing support for individual faculty members, full access to major statistical packages and databases, as well as funded travel to professional meetings. The University is an SAP Alliance partner and the Black School has an educational alliance with Oracle. Both SAP and Oracle functional databases are available for use by faculty and students. A partial listing of available databases includes WRDS, CRSP, Compustat, Eventus, Lexis-Nexis, I/B/E/S, PHLX data, NYSE TAQ, PACAP, Bureau von Dijk, Datastream and Worldscope. Salary: Negotiable and competitive with AACSB-accredited schools of business. Location: Students and faculty enjoy the beauty of the college’s 854-acre campus, located minutes away from the heart of Pennsylvania’s fourth-largest city. Metropolitan Erie has a population of over 280,000 and provides a variety of recreational and cultural activities year-round. Erie is located at the intersection of major interstate highways nearly equidistant between Buffalo, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh. Local airport service is available in addition to easy access to the three international airports – all within two hours.
