The Department of Communication and Media Studies, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies at York University invites highly qualified applicants for a professorial stream tenure-track appointment in Politics, Policy and Work-Integrated Learning at the Assistant Professor level, to commence July 1, 2023.

Candidate Qualifications:
Degree: PhD by July 1, 2023 in Communication and Media Studies or related discipline required.
Research/Practice Expertise:
o Clearly articulated program of research (including research creation, professional practice, or community-based research) and specialization in: Canadian communication and media in relation to politics and/or policy from a social justice perspective, with preference given to candidates working in the field of critical political economy.
o Engaged in outstanding, innovative, and, as appropriate, externally funded research (including research creation, professional practice or community-based research) at the highest level.
o Research excellence (or promise thereof for early career scholars) of a recognized international calibre, as evident in: the research statement; significant publications (or forthcoming publications); presentations at major conferences; awards and accolades; and strong recommendations from referees of high standing.

Teaching:
o Excellence (or promise of excellence for early career scholars) in teaching, as evident in: the teaching statement; teaching accomplishments and pedagogical innovations (e.g., high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning); teaching evaluations; strong letters of reference.
o Suitability for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies, given that the position will involve graduate teaching and supervision in the Graduate Programme in Communication and Culture.

Additional:
Experience, ability or demonstrated interest in Experiential Education and Work Integrated Learning, including placement programs in community, public, not-for-profit or corporate sectors in the area of policy-making and/or political communication and/or advocacy is required. The candidate will teach professionalization and placement courses in the Department of Communication and Media studies as well as other general and specialized courses. The successful candidate will lead the development and strengthening of experiential education and work-integrated learning curriculum in the Department.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
