Assistant or Associate Professor in Finance or Economics
University of Ottawa, School of Management

Duties: Primary roles will be to publish in top academic journals in finance or related fields, provide academic leadership and to assist in the delivery of new programs and courses. As a member of the academic staff, the selected candidate will perform, in varying proportions: a) teaching activities; b) scholarly activities; c) academic service activities; and d) supervision of graduate students.

Terms: Tenure-track position.

Salary & Benefits Package: Salaries are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience where assistant professors typically start at $130,000 per year. Included is a start-up period with a reduced teaching load and start-up funding for research. The University of Ottawa provides a complete compensation package, which includes long-term disability, basic group life insurance, supplementary health insurance, a University of Ottawa pension plan, optional life insurance, and reimbursement of eligible relocation expenses.

Skills Requirements:

  • Education: Ph.D. (or ABD) in Finance or Economics. 
  • Work experience:
    • Commensurate with rank and experience, a high-potential program of research in Finance; for candidates applying at the Associate rank, the quality of the research program must be demonstrated by articles published in high quality peer-reviewed journals; Members of the finance faculty have recently published in premier finance and accounting journals including Contemporary Accounting Research, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Management Science, Review of Accounting Studies, and Journal of Business venturing.
    • Strong teaching competency at the undergraduate, professional (MBA/EMBA) and Masters and/or Ph.D. levels as demonstrated by past teaching evaluations and a presentation given to faculty members and students if invited for an interview;
    • Applicants appointed at the Associate Professor level with experience in graduate student supervision are preferred;
    • Ability to define, lead, manage and attract funds for internationally recognized excellent research.
