The School of Information Technology (SoIT) at the University of Cincinnati is seeking an Assistant Director of Business Affairs to start as soon as possible, preferably by August 1, 2019. The SoIT is a multi-function academic department that is growing at a fast pace in terms of academic programs, students’ enrollment, employees, national recognition, discipline leadership at the regional, state, and national levels, and major projects and programs.

The Assistant Director will be responsible for the SoIT operations and finance. In particular, the position will be responsible for ensuring highest levels of operational excellence and financial strength as the SoIT continues to position itself in national and global leadership. Working closely with the School Director, this individual will have responsibilities that include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with the School Director to establish long-range operational and financial objectives and specify the strategies and actions to achieve these objectives.
  • Develop and maintain budget strategy for the different functions in the SoIT.
  • Lead the SoIT staff to ensure alignment to the SoIT’s strategic plan and integration of the different functions to meet the SoIT’s common goals.
  • Leadership in the assessment and evaluation of the SoIT’s operational processes and achieving national recognition and certification to ensure efficiency and excellence.
  • Represent the SoIT to national organizations such as the Computing Research Association and iSchools . In addition, work closely with the Executive Directors of these organizations to ensure effective representation of the SoIT in different national forums.
  • Leadership in professional development of the SoIT employees to grow their capacity to contribute effectively to the SoIT goals.
  • As a member of the SoIT’s leadership team, ensure the assessment, evaluation, and the successful implementation of the SoIT’s strategic and operational plan.
  • Leadership in strategizing, organizing and evolving the annual IT Expo to meet the SoIT’s growing posture in the region, state, and nationally.
  • Leadership in strategizing and evolving the SoIT’s centers such as the Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense and the Information Technology Solutions Center including representing the SoIT to different stakeholders.
  • Leadership in developing and implementing the SoIT’s communication strategy.
  • Leadership in ensuring the successful operation and integration of the Early IT program with the SoIT, the College, and the University.
  • Leadership in ensuring the effective operation of the IT Learning Center
  • Leadership in utilizing data as indicators to inform the School director and stakeholders of the SoIT’s progress.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with three (3) years of experience; -OR- Associate's degree with five (5) years’ experience; -OR- seven (7) years’ experience; degree must be in Business Administration or related field.
  • Financial and administrative experience is required and must include one (1) year supervision.

Ideal Qualifications:

Master’s degree or higher in a related field and evidence of commitment to continuous professional development; Experience leading large events (500+ attendees), in an academic context similar to the IT Expo, with responsibilities over budget, sponsorship, and overall event leadership including planning, forming committees, and leading representatives from different business units to accomplish the goals of the events; Experience managing the operation of an academic learning center to support undergraduate and graduate students; Experience managing partnership with K-12 school districts, community colleges, and industry (IT industry preferred); Experience in developing business plans for academic initiatives; Experience in effective financial management to support growth of the academic unit; Experience representing the academic unit to different academic and non-academic stakeholders; Experience serving in a leadership capacity within the academic unit; Experience working effectively in teams, especially under pressure; Experience thriving in a fast-paced academic environment; Experience working closely with academic leaders to fulfill the mission of the unit; and Experience developing strategic and operational plan for the academic unit.
