Part-Time Research Assistant Interested in Restaurants and Gentrification

Location: New York, NY

Professor Greenberg of NYU-Stern is conducting a large-scale quantitative and qualitative study of the New York City restaurant industry that is funded by the NSF and Kauffman Foundation. The projects includes semi-structured interviews and quantitative data analyses of geo-spatial, restaurant review, and public and restricted-access government data. This posting is for a part-time research assistant to focus on how restaurant founding is associated with gentrification.

The ideal candidate has earned an MA/MS or BA/BS in computer science, public policy, data science, statistics, economics, computational biology, physics, or another quantitatively-oriented program. Given the nature of the data access and the opportunity to work closely with faculty, this is an excellent position for someone who is contemplating pursuing a PhD in a relevant discipline and wants to get involved in a large-scale research project to increase the odds of acceptance at a top program and then success once in graduate school.

The candidate should have expert-level knowledge of data management and statistical modeling techniques in a relevant statistical software environment (e.g., R, Python, SAS, Stata, Matlab). Experience with geographic data analysis and mapping is a plus that should be highlighted in the cover letter.
