The Opportunity


The Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics, one of seven academic departments in the Monash Business School, comprises approximately 47 academic staff with particular strengths in econometric theory and methods, applied econometrics, statistics, time series analysis, forecasting, actuarial science, data visualisation and analytics.


In the Excellence in Research for Australia assessment conducted by the Australian Research Council in 2015, Monash University received a rank of 5, which is the highest possible rank, in both Econometrics and Statistics. The Monash Business School is also in the top 10% of institutions in Econometrics as ranked by IDEAS (a Research Papers in Economics service maintained by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, USA), meaning that the Department appears among the best institutions in the world.


The Monash Business School is based in Melbourne, the world’s most liveable city for a 6th consecutive year (ranked by the Economist Intelligence Unit). The department is seeking to appoint suitably qualified and enthusiastic Associate Professors to join a highly motivated team at either the Caulfield or Clayton campus. You will be involved in continuing to build the department's reputation for excellence in research and high quality innovative teaching.


As an Associate Professor you will conduct research, take an active role in obtaining funding, conduct teaching and supervise honours/postgraduate research projects.


As a candidate for an Associate Professor position, you will have a PhD in econometrics, micro-econometrics, business statistics, economics, finance or a closely related discipline. You will have a strong record of high quality research publication in top-tier journals, and a proven commitment to high quality teaching, including evidence of leadership in teaching, ideally in micro-econometrics, applied econometrics, actuarial science or business analytics/data science. You will also have a high level of interpersonal skills, a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues, and potential to contribute to departmental leadership.
