At the Academy of Fine Arts - The Department of Contemporary Art is a vacant position as a professor (50%) in art with main emphasis on sculpture / installation in six-year anniversary. Addition is desired from 1 August 2019.


Arbeidsoppgåver / research area:
We are looking for a professor with expertise in sculpture / installation with ambitions to develop and explore the boundaries of what art practice can be before this area can be, and with interest in other artistic expressions and possible connections between them. Stillinga demands both technical knowledge and the ability to translate technical knowledge into artistic practice.


The person who is appointed must have both extensive artistic practice and a good theoretical understanding of the art field. Our new professor must be able to work with artistic development work and be able to document critical reflection on artistic processes that can be incorporated into teaching.


At the Art Academy, sculpture / installation is an integral part of the institute's gathering of educational offerings. The host must be able to rectify at all levels and must and must be the principal director for students who work with other medium / expressions.



  • Teaching and guidance of BA, MA students and PhD candidates
  • Artistic development work and research
  • Partial responsibility for teaching programs within the focus area of sculpture / installation
  • Recruitment of students at BA, MA and PhD level
  • Communication
  • Organizing and arranging these tasks
  • Administrative tasks and other management tasks

In the position, it is important to have contact with educational institutions and other relevant partners outside the institution. Anyone who is appointed must come up with inputs to strengthen the academic debate both at the department and the faculty, and participate in profiling the department externally - between the anna through developing professional networks locally, nationally and internationally. Stillinga will require co-operation with the other employees at the Academy of Fine Arts and will be employed at another university at the University of Bergen.


Qualifications and attributes:

  • Extensive artistic activity at the highest level according to international standard and relevant breadth and depth in the subject or discipline at the highest level
  • Documented relevant practical-pedagogical competence on the basis of education, teaching and guidance.
  • Educational basic education is a requirement for the position. Anyone who is appointed will be offered training if the requirement is not met before the appointment

Great emphasis will be placed on perspectives on artistic development work in general and within the focus area of sculpture / installation in particular.

The professional competence will be assessed by an expert committee. The best qualified applicants will be called in for an interview with an internal interview group, and to hold an open trial lecture for the institute's staff and students.

The language of instruction is Scandinavian and English. It is required that the person who is appointed can teach in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language within two years after the addition.

  • Position as professor (code 1013) in salary level 77 - 84 (currently NOK 731,400 - 893,900 gross in full-time position). For particularly qualified applicants, it may be relevant to consider higher salary.
