At the Grieg Academy - Department of Music, there is a vacant position as associate professor (100%) in performing music - song in four year anniversary. Addition is desired from 1 August 2019.


Arbeidsoppgåver / research area:

We seek an associate professor for research assignments, teaching song on BA and MA study program in performing music or composition, and guidance on ph.d. level. The subject environment will associate with a professional with expertise within soloist practice, chamber music and scenic experience, and with wide-ranging genre and repertoire experience. We pay attention to a professional who can contribute to further developing artistic activities, artistic development work, and teaching in a broadly oriented song section.


Teaching will primarily be linked to the subject of study for classical music, but the host should be open to teaching assignments that include students from other fields of study and study programs. Teaching will mainly include work with main instrument and possibly bi-instrument on our study offerings before performing music as well as before ensemble play / chamber music.


Qualifications and attributes:

  • Documented and active artistic activity or development work on a high international level, solo and / or as ensemble songs
  • Documented relevant practical-pedagogical competence on the basis of education, teaching and guidance.

It is important that applicants have experience with developing young voices and show good understanding of the voice's anatomy / voice care, language, diction and performance advocacy.

The professional competence will be assessed by an expert committee. The best qualified applicants will be called in for an interview by an internal interview group, and will also have to hold trial lessons for the department's staff and students.

In addition, emphasis will be placed on:

  • Educational abilities and willingness to explore diverse forms of teaching and collaboration across disciplines
  • Good collaboration skills with emphasis on sharing culture and including professional communication
  • Perspective on higher art education and experience from teaching at university level
  • Organizational abilities and experience
  • Experience with project work

The language of instruction is Scandinavian and English. It is required that the person who is appointed can teach in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language within two years after the addition.

We offer:

  • Position as associate professor (code 1011) in salary level 64 - 72 (pay scale 24: 8, with salary NOK 565,500 - 658,300 gross per year in full-time employment). There is a deduction of 2% pension contribution to the Government Pension Fund. For particularly qualified applicants, it may be relevant to consider higher salary.
