At the Grieg Academy - Department of Music, there is a permanent position as associate professor / senior lecturer in performing music, board of directors for 20%. Addition is desired from 1 August 2019.


Arbeidsoppgåver / research area:

We apply for an associate professor / university lecturer for teaching in conducting / ensemble lecture at bachelor level. The subject environment needs a professional with expertise before conducting, where the teaching assignments are primarily within the corps area. In addition, the advisor hosted teaching assignments before basic boarding techniques, regardless of ensemble types. It is desirable that the employee can run and conduct a major performing orchestra / ensemble project at the institute.


Teaching can include elective and compulsory courses in ensemble / conducting on our study offerings (Bachelor program and post-graduate education) before performing music.


Qualifications and attributes:

  • For position as associate professor: Documented artistic activity or development work as a conductor at a high international level.
  • For position as a senior lecturer: Documented recognized artistic activity or development work as conductor of a certain extent.
  • For both positions: Documented relevant practical-pedagogical skills based on education teaching and guidance.

The professional competence will be assessed by an expert committee. The best qualified applicants will be called in for an interview by an internal interview group, and will have to hold trial teaching for the department's staff and students.

In addition, emphasis will be placed on:

  • Educational abilities and commitment
  • Good collaboration skills with emphasis on dialogue and inclusive professional communication
  • Perspective on higher art education and experience from teaching at university level
  • Organizational abilities and experience

The language of instruction is Scandinavian and English. It is required that the person who is appointed can teach in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language within two years after the addition.

We offer:

  • Position as associate professor (code 1011) in salary step 64 - 72 (pay scale 24: 8, with salary NOK 565,500 - 658,300 gross per year in full-time employment) or position as university lecturer (code 1009) in salary steps 52 - 64 (payroll 25: 6, with salary NOK 456,900 - 565,500). There is a deduction of 2% pension contribution to the Government Pension Fund. For particularly qualified applicants, it may be relevant to consider higher salary.
