The business school at UiS offers bachelor programs in economics and administration, accounting and auditing as well as jurisprudence. In addition, Masters in Economics and Administration (Civil Economics) are offered, accounting and auditing, experience-based master's programs aimed at business and industry (EMBA) and research education (PhD). The faculty facilitates education, research and dissemination within a wide range of subjects, such as finance, marketing, organization and management, accounting and auditing, jurisprudence, strategy and economics. The University's Center for Innovation Research and the Center for Entrepreneurship are organized by the faculty. As of today, about 80 employees and 1,200 students are affiliated with the faculty.


From 1.1.2019 the faculty's academic activities are organized in three departments; Department of Innovation, Management and Marketing, Department of Accounting and Jurisprudence and Department of Economics and Finance. The faculty will be array organized. The department departments, led by the head of department, are responsible for contributing courses and teaching across the various study programs, which in turn have their own program managers.


PhD candidate in marketing and strategy

The University of Stavanger (UiS) has a vacancy as a PhD candidate in marketing and strategy at the School of Business at the University of Stavanger, Department of Innovation, Management and Marketing.


The Marketing and Strategy Group is dedicated to excellence in research and teaching. The research-active group, with doctorates from internationally renowned universities, has published in the leading academic journals in marketing and strategy, including the Journal of Marketing, the Journal of Marketing Research, the International Journal of Research in Marketing, the Journal of Retailing and the Strategic Management Journal. The research is centered on strategy and strategic marketing, inter-organizational relations, social networks, innovation, development and diffusion of new products, as well as market analysis.


The position will finance a PhD project within marketing and strategy. The selected candidate will work with a team of dedicated supervisors, in close contact with the entire faculty and a larger group of PhD students.


Although PhD projects will meet the chosen candidate's research interests and qualifications, we especially encourage applications from candidates who wish to research in one of the following areas:

  • organization and development of innovation projects
  • commercialization of new products and services
  • organization of temporary project organizations
  • social and organizational networks
  • dynamics in business models
  • marketing of innovation platforms

This is an educational position that will give promising research talents the opportunity for professional development. The position has research training up to the doctoral degree as a goal.


The PhD candidate is employed for a period of three years with a pure research education or four years with a research education and 25% duty work. This is clarified in the recruitment process. The position is vacant from 1 August 2019.


The person employed should have strong analytical skills (eg, background from market analysis, economics, statistics, mathematics, quantitative sociology), a five-year master's degree with a master's thesis, preferably of a recent date, or equivalent education that provides the basis for conducting a research education. . The grade on the Master's thesis and the weighted average grade on the Master's program must both correspond to B or better to be considered. Candidates who submit the master thesis in spring 2019 are also welcome to apply.


In the assessment, emphasis will be placed on the applicant's project proposal, the research's potential within the field, and personal prerequisites for completing the research education. Those who are employed must be able to work independently and in a community, be innovative and creative. The fellow must have good English proficiency, both written and oral. For graduates with a large working capacity and who are aware that a doctoral course is a demanding learning process, the fellowship position constitutes outstanding opportunities for personal and professional development.

The fellow is paid according to the Government Wage Regulations, salary plan 17,515, job code 1017, NOK 449,400 per year. The position provides automatic membership of the Government Pension Fund, which ensures good pension benefits.
