Fraunhofer FIT - Big Data

Scientific staff with doctoral goals at the University of Bayreuth in cooperation with the project group Business Information Systems of the Fraunhofer FIT (pay scale group 13 TV-L) The project group Business Information Systems of the Fraunhofer FIT works together at the Universities of Augsburg and Bayreuth. At the University of Bayreuth this is represented by the following chairs and professorships:

The project group Business Information Systems of the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology FIT is part of a publicly funded research project on energy efficiency of buildings with the aim of near-real-time forecasting of energy consumption while respecting all requirements of German data protection. For this purpose, big data-based energy consumption estimation in the sense of predictive analytics on the basis of building physics and consumption-oriented data are to be connected by a feedback loop with the help of machine learning. This involves the linking of large (un) structured data volumes in a common big data system architecture. As a research assistant, you will be instrumental in driving the project forward.          

Your tasks

  • Conceptualization and prototypical implementation of big-data algorithms for the analysis of energy consumption in buildings

  • Developing Privacy Preserving Data Mining Privacy practices in the context of Big Data

  • Continuous analysis of user-specific energy consumption data through the use of machine learning

  • Development of an integrated prototype based on modern web technologies


What you should bring with you

  • A good to very good master's degree in computer science or related courses

  • Advanced knowledge in data analytics

  • Advanced knowledge in object-oriented programming

  • Basic knowledge of big data system architectures is desirable but not necessary

  • Very good analytical skills

  • Interest in agile software development

  • Teamwork, motivation, initiative, motivation and flexibility

  • Enjoyment of interdisciplinary cooperation as well as the dutiful assumption of responsibility

  • Very sure expression in both German and English


The required qualification must already be demonstrated in the application documents by means of corresponding certificates.
