Post doc in digital transformation of business and management education


Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a vacant post doc position within the field of digital transformation of education at the Department of Digitalization.  


The successful applicant will be part of the project Research in Blended Learning (RiBL), which will run until the end of 2022. The aim of the project is the construction of new knowledge about the future of technology-supported teaching and learning in Higher Education and its consequences and prospects for student learning in the context of business and management studies. Besides being part of RiBL, the applicant will be affiliated with the department of Digitalization at CBS. 


The post doc will focus on the exploration of the transformational impact of digital technologies on teaching and learning in business and management education. In recent years, we have witnessed how the introduction of digital technologies are changing the mode of teaching and learning in higher education. Classrooms are flipped, which means that knowledge transmission including lecturing increasingly is provided online which frees up time in the classroom for dialogue and interactive learning and thereby provides new opportunities for active engagement and interaction. Teachers can design learning activities and processes for personalized learning flows to provide relevant challenges and support for students at different levels and with different needs based on new opportunities provided by socio-technical solutions. Moreover, the use of digital technologies provides new opportunities for collaboration with business and society nationally as well as internationally that support the development of important 21st century skills as collaboration and inter-cultural understanding. 


At the same time, the new eLearning tools facilitate opportunities for remote, self-paced learning in which students can learn at different times and pace in different places, inside as well as outside the formal institutional context challenging the traditional role of universities as the main provider of knowledge. Universities are accordingly forced to rethink their role in providing life-long education and in preparation of students for a future labor market with jobs that do not exist today. 


Applicants are be expected to take a long-term view and, in their research and teaching, explore how socio-technical technologies are fundamentally transforming the ways in which educational institutions create value for business and society. We welcome applicants with theoretically advanced and practically relevant ideas about the opportunities of digital transformation of education for the future. 


Research topics 

Relevant research topics that may be pursued include: 

• How can digital transformation of education in business and management prepare students (skills, competences, mindsets) to become part of the future digital workforce of the 21st century? 

• How can new digital technologies facilitate and constrain learning in business and management education? 

• How can business and management education support the integration of non-human capabilities (learning algorithms, AI, big data analytics) with human capabilities (judgment, prediction, decision-making)? 

• How can business and management education better integrate formal, non-formal, and informal learning modes in the digital age? 

• How can professors and students create new learning environments for business and management education driven by digitalization? 

• How can we rethink the link between business and management education and industry in the digital age (lifelong learning)? 

The post doc. is a non-tenured position for a 3-year period with research obligation and teaching obligation. To fulfill the research requirements of the position, the applicant chosen is expected to be physically present on a regular basis and actively participate in the teaching and research activities of the Department.  



The applicant must hold a PhD or the equivalent. In assessing applications, particular emphasis will be placed on research potential. Emphasis is placed on research relevant to the job description. The applicant must have professional proficiency in English (written and spoken). Recruitment procedure  

The Recruitment Committee will shortlist minimum two applicants; when possible five or more applicants will be shortlisted. The shortlisted applicants will be assessed by the Assessment Committee. All applicants will be notified of their status in the recruitment process shortly after the application deadline. The applicants selected for assessment will be notified about the composition of the Assessment Committee and later in the process about the result of the assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed each applicant will be notified of the outcome of their application.
