Research professor (TTZAPBOF) in the domain Video Game Localization

 

Your assignment


Your assignment encompasses tasks of education, research and services and will consist mainly of scientific research, with a limited participation in the educational programs, for five years (the duration of the temporary appointment in the tenure track system).

  • You will develop research in the field of Video Game Localization within the research group TricS (Translation, interpreting and intercultural studies).

  • You acquire and manage (inter) national research funds.

  • You start doctoral programs and supervise doctoral students within your field of expertise.

  • In this context, you also fulfill service, support and coordination tasks.

  • You will teach the optional course "Localization with focus on Video Games" (master translation, 6 credits).

  • You contribute to the development of scientific collaborations with other research groups within and outside the university.

 

Your profile

  • You hold a doctorate with a thesis in computer technology, linguistics, linguistics and literature, translation studies or similar, with a strong component in video-game localization.

  • You have a minimum postgraduate seniority of 2 years at the time of closing the vacancy.

  • You have an international scientific curriculum and perform high-quality scientific research in the field of video game localization and the broader framework of (audiovisual) translation studies.

  • Your research qualities are consistent with the policies of the university .

  • In your education you place the right accents that fit within the vision on education at the University of Antwerp.

  • You have (potential) leadership skills.

  • You are quality-oriented, honest, creative and collaborative.

  • You are native or near-native Dutch or English. If you do not have the administrative language, Dutch, you are prepared to learn Dutch within five years of your appointment up to the CEFR level B2. The University of Antwerp supports international staff with an integration program and offers appropriate language support within the framework of Flemish language regulations .

 

We offer

  • an appointment in the degree of lecturer, in temporary employment in the tenure track system for a period of five years. This period results in an immediate permanent appointment in the degree of senior lecturer, if the university board judges the performance of the person concerned on the basis of predetermined and published assessment criteria. After the permanent appointment, a further five-year period is provided with a limited teaching assignment to further strengthen the research curriculum;

  • In the case of equal qualifications, the university board gives priority to candidates of the underrepresented gender within the scientific field. This priority is not automatic and unconditional, since the personal situation of the candidate is always taken into account in the assessment;

  • date of commencement of employment is 1 October 2019 at the earliest ;

  • a gross monthly salary of a full-time teacher varies from € 4,255.06 to € 6,272.13;

  • an attractive starter package consisting of a full four-year doctoral scholarship with an operating budget (€ 30,000);

  • a dynamic and stimulating work environment.

 

How to apply?

  • You can only apply online , and until 21 January 2018 at the latest . In your application form, you must submit a detailed research plan for the next five years (approximately 5,000 words, including a brief description (1 page) of the planned doctoral research (see starting package)) and a report on the previously conducted scientific research (maximum 5 000 words). In addition, you add two abstracts of the scientific content of the research plan - a scientific abstract and an abstract in layman's terms - of a maximum of 500 words each (or a maximum of 4000 characters). All documents must be submitted in English.

  • A pre-selection is made on the basis of the submitted applications; the further selection procedure is function-oriented and is determined by the selection committee.
