Non Tenure-Track Academic Faculty Position - Lecturer in Excel


Excel at Georgia Tech housed in the Institute for Leadership and Entrepreneurship (ILE) within the Scheller College of Business, is seeking a full time Lecturer to start fall of 2018. The academic non-tenure track appointment will combine curriculum development, creation of lesson plans, teaching of courses, advising and administrative responsibilities. Excel at Georgia Tech is designed to be inclusive of students with (I/DD), ultimately leading to gainful employment, independence and lifelong learning. The position will support the academic and practical skill components for EXCEL, a four-year certificate program approved and administered by the Georgia Tech Professional Education. The minimum requirements are a Master’s Degree and experience in inclusive programs for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

 

Principal duties include teaching EXCEL courses during the fall semester 2018 and spring semester 2019, student advisement, and also interfacing with other staff and Georgia Tech faculty teaching academic courses. The teaching area for this position will require the development of students’ social and independent living skills, one or more of the skills areas of general education and the ability to teach students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). The successful candidate will support the development of curriculum and course content for the EXCEL.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the development of person-centered plans, advising a cohort of students based on their plans, and working with a team responsible for person-centered education and vocational development.

 

We desire a candidate who is knowledgeable of curriculum development and assessment; aware of best practices in undergraduate education; exhibits excellent team work, communication, and managerial skills; and a demonstrated commitment to the education and development of students with (I/DD).

 

Close collaboration with the Excel Curriculum Coordinator and other Excel staff to ensure that:

  • Course descriptions are vetted submission to Professional Education by established deadlines
  • Course syllabi model the course description submitted to Professional Education
  • Course syllabi are vetted to meet requirements and standards for Excel overall certificate program
  • That inclusive courses are accompanied when necessary by a modified syllabus
  • That syllabi clearly outline expectations, assignments, grading scale, and attribute points to each assignment so that students may track their own progress
  • Courses are scheduled in a timely manner


Duties also include:

 

  • Advising students individually or as an assigned cohort based on their person-centered plans.
  • Operate as liaison between Excel and assigned college, departments, organizational entities including, other stakeholders for EXCEL program excellence as it interfaces with the academic part of our mission.
  • Assist in the planning, organizing and development of sessions for the EXCEL Orientations
  • Create, participate and help manage summer camps for potential EXCEL students
  • Help Staff on EXCEL Course related study trips and site visits
  • Developing and measuring competencies for the students and the program
  • Interact and partner with other Georgia Tech faculty and organizational entities
  • Academically and vocationally advise the students based on their person-centered plans
  • Engage in any other activities that are necessary to implement and institutionalize an outstanding inclusive postsecondary education program.

The successful candidate will also engage in any other activities that are necessary to implement and institutionalize an outstanding inclusive postsecondary education program. This position requires a highly motivated individual with the skills and interests to teach, develop, and implement various aspects of the program.
