Adjunct Instructor, Media Center Practicum in Live Production

The Annenberg School of Journalism at the University of Southern California seeks an adjunct instructor, specializing in Video/Audio, to teach JOUR 206: Media Center Practicum in Live Production Fall 2019. 

J206 gives journalism majors hands-on experience in broadcast, radio, and digital news. It is taught in the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism’s state-of-the-art Media Center in Wallis Annenberg Hall. Students work four hours a week in the Media Center to fulfill this lab shift, which runs concurrently with the core journalism courses Reporting and Writing I and Reporting and Writing II. The practicum is credit/no-credit. J206 instructors work to support student editors and reporters as they produce content for student-led Annenberg Media. Instructors will work one full day (9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.) Monday through Thursday on site in the Media Center.


Applicants should have a minimum of three years of broadcast television and/or radio reporting or producing experience, including daily reporting and breaking news. Applicants should be able to write, shoot and edit reporter packages for television and radio broadcasts and social media. Prior teaching experience is preferred, and a journalism degree is a plus.


Required Skills/Knowledge Areas:

  • Writing/reporting for broadcast radio and television
  • Best practices for journalists on social media platforms.
  • Working on deadline and in a breaking news environment
  • Experience with iNews, News Boss, or other similar software
