Adjunct Instructor, Advertising Copywriting

The Annenberg School of Journalism at the University of Southern California seeks a highly qualified adjunct instructor to teach PR 341 Advertising Copywriting. This class is for the undergraduate student who is interested in learning the role of the creative director, copywriter and art director in the development and execution of advertising ads and campaigns across all mediums. The objective of the course is to provide an overview of the techniques an advertising copywriter uses to conceive and write ads. It functions as a lab course whereby students are given assignments on the spot and must execute the various aspects of advertising copywriting as it relates to the creative team (account manager and art director). The role of the advertising agency in developing, maintaining or shifting a client’s brand image also will be explored, with an emphasis on the copywriter’s role in the process. Therefore, experience in agency ,corporate, or marketing campaigns is preferred. Because of the lockstep nature of our curriculum, willingness to adhere to the established class curriculum is required.

Requirements for consideration include a B.A., B.S., M.S., or an M.A. degree in a related field. Previous teaching experience is desirable. For some courses, outstanding professional experience may be substituted for academic credentials.
